Big move

Big (belated) announcement: we sold our home and my studio in Virginia and made the move to Carrboro. Our new home brings us close to our daughters and grandchildren but offers only a tiny back room for throwing pots. In 2024 I look forward to building a new studio addition and being able to take new orders again. Photos of the studio build coming in the next few months!

My work will be on display for the month of November at Eno Mill Gallery in Orange County, part of the NC Clayworks Potters Guild Exhibition. The companion exhibit on the walls will be the “7th Annual Paint It Orange Plein Air Paint-Out and Wet Paint Sale”– a wonderful collection of Orange County scenes.

One Day — Two Open Houses!

Elizabeth Krome & Katherine Maloney

Platter by Elizabeth Krome, Fox Perfume Jar by Katherine Maloney

Mark your calendars for December 11!

I am having an Open House at my studio, and Katherine Maloney is having one at hers, and we are only 28 minutes apart. My studio at Quail Run Pottery and hers at Dayspring Farm will both be open from 10 to 5. At my studio you’ll find the stoneware and porcelain I love making for everyday use in your home, and for special occasions. At Katie’s you’ll see her sensitive and realistic animal sculptures, many gracing functional objects. We hope you will come see both of us!

And just to put the icing on the cake, my studio-mate from Sarah Creek Potters, Martha Hayes, is having an Open House the same day! Her studio in Hallieford is a little farther away but absolutely worth the drive. Check out her link here–

This strange year

After a long season of applying to shows, being accepted, and then having them cancelled, I’ve entered a new phase. An Occasion for the Arts, scheduled for October 3-4 in Williamsburg, is going to happen — online. My online store is not fancy, but it’s here (over there on the right, at the bottom of the sidebar). And on Saturday I’ll be in my studio — and from noon to 1:30 I’ll be hosting a Zoom call. I’ll welcome you to the studio, show you pots that aren’t in my online store, take you out to my kiln, and, if time permits, throw a few demonstration pots on the wheel. I’ll be playing it by ear. So expect a glitch or too. But I hope you’ll come to Occasion and that we can enjoy a little Zoom time together.

Sorry I’m not seeing you….

My workdays in the studio are always mostly solitary, which I love, but I do look forward to the times I see people — doing shows, teaching classes. It’s been a strange spring without these social gatherings. It reminds me how much I enjoy talking with people about my pots: how I make them, why I make them, how they use them. I trust we’ll one day return to gathering in these ways, although the current trend toward re-opening without enough testing makes me think it will not be this summer, not even this fall. I’ve appplied to my usual shows, but I will be surprised (very happily) if they actually take place.

So I look forward to seeing you again as soon as we safely do it, and in the meantime I wish you health, friends to keep in touch with, and a tall pile of good books.
